My mother, who was born in London in 1922 and died in 2010 in Melbourne, used to call cheeky little children: PINKLEPOTTERS. I think she made up this term of endearment. ( I haven't found any other reference).

She also used to say: "If wishes were horses beggars would ride". I have found a reference to this which  mentions it in James Kelly's Scottish Proverbs, collected and arranged in 1721.

Another of her sayings was: " If ifs and ands were pots and pans there'd be no need for tinkers". It seems this line also appeared in the same Scottish proverb in this form: "If ifs and ands were pots and pans there's be no need for tinkers hands."
