PARTING
The big globe of water
Hung from the end of his nose
Early flu?....poor old man
*******
Eyes hidden and scrunched
Behind glasses
His body leaning over
The counter
A quiet man - the globe still there
Hanging onto the end of his nose
*********
An emaciated creature emerged
Huge eyes staring
At the naked bulb of life
Too desperate to move
A back leg caved in
The haunches so narrow
They'd fit under a hand
**********
Ribs sticking out
A clinging to life
An impossible farewell
To an impossible life
***********
The old man bent down
With the tear on his nose
And said a few words
Impossible to hear
***********
The man turned and walked
His dog didn't.
He turned and walked
But the dog couldn't move
************
Inertia and gravity
Rooted his scrawny body
To the farewell spot
************
So hard to bear
This last farewell
This last hurrah
This Man's Best friend
In the fright of life's stage
Just could not move
************
His bag of bones
His caved in frame
Was gently
Hauled away
*********
But on that day
And at that hour
In the smallest of dramas
But biggest of events
That man
And that dog
Were cleaved apart
**********
Did the man go home?
Could the man go home?
So sad....this diminished man
So whispered was
His private loss
